Part 2
investigation:
Another hot day, this time in August, brought SPIRIT back to the old abandoned hospital. This time we had quite a crew of investigators: Me, Jackie, S. Soul, Paul, Deb, Deb's son, Deb's daughter (in law), Jackie's son, Jackie's daughter, Cinn, Sam and Mary.
Our first stop was Pioneer Cemetary, which is right on the road of a small but lively wine country town. Pioneer Cemetary is laid out on a hill and very well kept. Most of the graves date back to the mid-late 1800's, but still look new! We got there as the sun was setting and it was nice and warm. I was surprised at how old, but well kept everything was. I took pictures, but got only many dust orbs.
We got to the hospital just after dark. Just as I was entering the door, I felt that same "biting" sensation on my arm that I felt the last time we were in the yard there, when my imagination ran away and I thought something "attacked" me. This time when I felt the sensation, I looked up and saw that it was just a leaf falling from the big trees outside of the hospital, that brushed against my arm. That debunked that.
Inside the hospital, Some of the grafitti was cleaned up from last time, but it was still dusty, dirty and run down. We chose to set up a circle of all 12 of us in the back room on the first floor. This time I brought a white towel with me to sit on. With 12 ppl, it took a while to set up and get settled. Finally, we began an EVP session, but first we all stated our names for later reference to compare the voices on our audio. This helps us determine EVP vs. someone in the group.
Once again, Cinn began to get images of who might have worked at and been a patient at the old hospital. She began to channel a Dr. and S. Soul and Jackie asked questions. I am not going to write a lot about the psychic part of the investigation since we are mainly a scientific group.
Jackie said we should split into 2 groups. One group will go upstairs in the hospital and the other over next door to the big house. I was eagar to go upstairs in the hospital because that is where I got the "Okay" and "No" EVPs the last time. It's also where I got that weird voice saying "Oh well".
S. Soul, Paul, Jackie and I went up the crumbling steps to the second floor. We set up in a back room I hadn't investigated in before. Jackie had already set up her video camera in the front room. Then Jackie decided to play music to see if the spirit or spirits would respond. She began to blast The White Stripes. Then she paused to ask the potential spirits what they thought of it. Jackie's son and daughter joined us in the room and Jackie played more music: The Anniversary Waltz, Bye Bye Love and In The Mood. We figured we would cover all different eras of music. Nothing strange seemed to be happening. We could hear people outside in the street and the neighbors, but it was easy to determine the outside noise vs. in the building, thank goodness.
We moved into the front upstairs room where Jackie had the camera set up. I took pictures. We began to ask more questions. The windows were not boarded up anymore and opened out into a warm night.
We finally switched places with the other group and headed over to the old house that used to be a convelescent home. I was showing Jackie's son the weird stuff like the old 60's mushroom wallpaper.
We decided to do an EVP session in the basement. Most of the junk that was on the floor the last time was still there. But this time, I decided to read it. I found an auto insurance bill from 1975 that was never paid. There were also other pieces of mail from the fall of 1975 and winter of 1976 addressed to the same person. We weren't sure who that person was. The basement was still filthy.
Then Paul and I went upstairs. I had not been in the main part of the house before. It was VERY weird and even more like "A Haunting" than I thought. It was sort of a farm house, re-done, but still needed a lot of work. If you ever watch "A Haunting", it's pretty much the same every episode. A young couple buy a fixer-upper as their dream home, then weird things start happening and the haunting gets so bad that they want to leave, but they can't because they can't afford to move etc... etc... I felt like I was on the set of that show.
Paul and I did some EVP work in the upstairs bedroom, no furniture in any of the rooms except for a middle room on the second floor that had an upright piano. It was very cliched that the only piece of furniture in the house was a piano!
Cinn and Sam said the other part of the house upstairs felt "bad". So Paul and I eagarly followed them into where the bad vibes were, hoping to get some action. We stood in a hallway and Sam said that "it" followed me and was right next to me. He asked if I felt something, and just then, I did feel something like a cobweb on my right arm. But when I looked to my right, there actually WAS a cobweb and I realized that I was feeling nothing out of the ordinary at all. After that, we exited the house and ended the investigation, ready to check out our newly gathered evidence.
evidence:
EVP time!!! I was able to get 3 possible EVPs, all from the old hospital building.
EVP: Strange Vocal
Place: The old hospital, downstairs back room
Team Members Present: Me, Deb and Mary
Event: At this time everyone else was either outside or setting up somewhere else. Deb and Mary were just talking and I had my recorder going. What I got was this: Deb asks Mary "Have you noticed any spikes on your EMF meter?" and a completely out of place voice cuts in, overlapping what Deb is saying. It sounds like a total non-sense word. I have played it many times and it sounds to me like "Wow-jer". Right after, Mary responds no to Deb.
"Wow-jer"? I don't know what it means, I just know that's what it said. The voice was deep, definitely male, quiet and spoken quickly, but clearly audible and right in my mic. My recorder was in my lap. The voice sounds like when you are changing the radio and get a part of a word on a talk show or a commercial. I was wondering if maybe the theory that some EVPs are caused by radio waves might be true. Perhaps it was just that? It could also very well be a spirit, saying something in an odd language... It did kind of remind me of the "Oh well" EVP I got, although the voice was even deeper this time and less robotic. The only thing I can say for sure about "Wow-jer", is that there were only 3 females in that room, Me, Deb and Mary. So the origin of the voice can not be explained.
EVP: "(Help) Eva"
Place: The old hospital, downstairs, back room
Team Members Present: Me, Cinn, Sam, Mary, Deb, Jackie, Paul, S. Soul, Deb's kids, Jackie's kids
Event: Paul and Jackie both got this EVP. I over-looked it as noise from the group, then went back to my audio and discovered that I too, had it. Although we were all talking at the time, it still seems out of place and sounds like a man kind of growel-whispering "Eva". Some hear "Help Eva." I don't like to be overly skeptical, but scientifically, I feel I must. I just can't rule out the fact that there were so many of us and so much noise. I'd say I'm 50-50 on this one.
EVP: "It's Me"
Place: The old hospital, upstairs, back room
Team Members Present: Me, Jackie, S. Soul, Jackie's kids and Paul (several feet away in the next room)
Event: I over-looked this one at very first, I think I thought it might have been Jackie. After listening to it several more times, I believe it's more likely an EVP than not.
Paul is several feet away in the next room, but still very much in earshot and he says "What was that, I hear somethin'."
Then woman's voice says quickly and quietly, "It's me."
Then there's a short pause and S. Soul says "Flash".
There were only 3 females present: Me, Jackie and her daughter. The voice is too far away and soft to be me or Jackie, and it sounds NOTHING like Jackie's daughter's voice. The only logical explaination is that it was someone from outside, but everyone who went by outside was either hooting, shouting or whistling. If they spoke that softly from outside, we would have never heard it at all!
My evidence was interesting, but the most compelling evidence of all in my opinion were 2 EVPs that Jackie got that evening. One is an EVP of a woman CLEARLY whispering "Who's that?" almost into Jackie's mic right before Jackie talks on the walkie talkie. When you hear Jackie talk on the Walkie Talkie, Jackie's voice is VERY loud and she asks the other team members "Can you guys hear me?" and almost over-laps the "that" in "Who's that".
After Jackie speaks, you hear "That was me". It is my belief that I said "That was me" across the room into my recorder. I don't think it's part of the EVP. HOWEVER, I know for CERTAIN the "Who's that" was none of us on the team.
The other great EVP was caught on Jackie's video camera. The camera was set in the front upstairs room and we were playing music in the back upstairs room. On the audio you can hear the song by The White Stripes playing in the next room. Then you hear a woman whisper very close to the camera mic what sounds like "Mary". Nobody was in the room at the time.
Photographic Evidence
Well, I don't think what I got was "evidence" but I got a single, bright orb, greenish in hue right outside a side door of the hospital. There are tons of dust orbs in that area, but this one was alone in the photo, and looked too bright to be a dust orb. It could have just been lense flair though, because the leaves on the trees where extra bright were my flash hit them.
personal conclusion: (Please note this is MY personal conclusion, and may not be the same opinion of the other members of the SPIRIT team) I'm like Jason on Ghosthunters in that I'm really reluctant to say that a place is haunted, but I truly believe this old hospital building is! I think there is at least the spirit of a woman there, who knows who she is and from what time... but she has certainly spoken for us more than once!
