investigation:
SPIRIT investigated this divey hotel in February of 2008. This was my very first investigation ever and I was nervous. I was not afraid of finding ghosts, but as a socially awkward person, I was shy around my new team members.
Jackie, Satori Soul, Paul and I drove to Port Costa where we met up with Sally (and daughter), Dennis and his wife. The hotel is an old yellow Victorian that was supposedly a brothel at one time. The creepiest part is that it is set next to a rail road tracks (which still has running trains) and it is also on the water of Port Costa. Unlike a lot of hotels in the NorthBay, It's not charming in a Honeymoon Bed and Breakfast kind of way. It's more depressing-creepy in a Hemmingway meets Stephen King kind of genre.
Inside there is a large stair case and 3 floors. Each room has a plaque with a woman's name on the door. The furniture is old and torn up, the carpet and mirrors are dirty and there are weird paintings on the walls. Even so, this place is very interesting and I was very excited to be there.
First we did a vigil in a down stairs room. Nothing happened. Then we broke into groups of two and did some EVP work in various rooms. My partner was Paul, a very friendly, sweet guy who made me feel more at ease being in such a strange setting with people I barely knew.
Paul had his digital recorder on as we talked, hoping to pick up some EVPs. I took pictures of the dirty, dusty furniture in Maude's room. We checked out one more room, then Jackie came in and told us we'd call it a night.
evidence:
As most novice and overly-excited ghosthunters will do, I mistook the most common dust orbs for evidence. I was particularly excited about a bright orb that I caught in Carmen's room. Alas, orbs are not proof of paranormal activity. While yes, some can be compelling, most are nothing more than dust or lense flair.
I got one pic that looks like a lady's face in the mirror, it's cool, but I am 99% sure it's just matrixing.
I did not have a digital recorder yet, so I didn't collect any EVPs.
personal conclusion: (Please note this is MY personal conclusion, and may not be the same opinion of the other members of the SPIRIT team) There are some EVPs from The Burlington Hotel that my group got on two seperate occasions. I myself didn't see, hear, feel or collect anything that impressed me about the place, but that does not mean it isn't haunted. My conclusion for the Burlington is inconclusive.
